Coaching Requirements

For All Coaches:

As you Register to become a head coach or assistance coach for WYBA.  The Registration process will require you upload all REQUIRED documents in order to be considered for coaching.  These documents are to ensure the health and safety of all players and personal present during practices & games.  Our League WYBA, JBL (Travel) and Warren require that our coaches have the following on file with WYBA and with the Township:

  • Rutgers Safety Card
  • Fingerprinting
  • Background Check
  • CPR/AED

Section Labeled Coaching Credentials has links to necessary area's to register & complete the required certifications.  Our goal is to ensure all coaches are able to safely work the kids and ensuring parents their kids are safe and can be taken care of during an emergency.

For High School Coaches

  • Coaches (including high school) that are 18 years old prior to or on March 15, 2024 must complete the requirements below. Those coaches that will not be 18 years old by March 15, 2024 are strongly encouraged to complete the requirements.

Mandatory Requirements:

Our WYBA Safety Director will be verifying prior to the start that all Coaches for Rec & Travel have completed and provided the necessary certifications.

  • The Rutgers Safety Card is a one-time certification and is applicable if you were certified from another sport.   
  • If you completed your fingerprinting in last 6 months with Warren Township, email Warren Township to confirm your fingerprints are transferrable to WYBA.  If so, upload the email as confirmation.  Otherwise submit a new fingerprint to the town.

COACHING FAQs

The Rutgers SAFETY Clinic (Sports Awareness for Educating Today’s Youth ™) is a three-hour program that meets the “Minimum Standards for Volunteer Coaches Safety Orientation and Training Skills Programs” (N.J.A.C. 5:52) and provides partial civil immunity protection to volunteer coaches under the “Little League Law” (2A:62A-6 et. seq.)

  • All coaches must have completed the Rutgers Safety Course.  Rutgers Card if completed for another sport is acceptable.
  • You can either e-mail a copy of your Rutgers Card to WYBASafety@gmail.com  or upload our Rutgers Safety Card during coaching registration.
  • All coaches must be certified every two years. Your CPR certification must be valid through the end of the season. Please e-mail a copy of the new or updated CRP certification card to WYBASafety@gmail.com. Please note online course certification will be accepted at this time.
  • Strongly encouraged for High School coaches

  • Fingerprinting is MANDATORY for all adult coaches. This is a one-time certification as long as you have been fingerprinted after 2009. Please note that fingerprinting from other towns or agencies will not be accepted by the Warren Township Recreation Department.   For instructions on fingerprinting please see the Warren Township site by clicking here
  • This is an annual requirement that must be completed prior to each winter basketball season.

  • Results of your background check are kept confidential.
  • All coaches must complete online concussion training annually
  • Strongly encouraged for High School coaches

  • After completing the training, you will receive an e-mail certification. Please forward this e-mail to WYBASafety@gmail.com
  • WYBA allows for high school students to participate as coaches 
  • All high school coaches must have a fully certified adult coach as a coach on their team
  • This adult coach MUST be present at all practices and games
